The development and validation process typically includes the following steps:

Define Project Requirements
Analyze Job Requirements
Develop/Identify Tests
Demonstrate Validity
Develop Measures of Job Performance
Implement the Selection System
Document Your Test Research & Administration Practices

Define Project Requirements
PRA consultants learn about the conditions under which the selection tools will be used to help your organization define its selection goals. Based on your needs, we create and refine detailed research and implementation plans.

Analyze Job Requirements
Using a variety of proven methods, our professionals identify the important tasks of your target jobs and the KSAs required to perform them.

Develop/Identify Tests
Your organization may choose to use existing (off-the-shelf) selection tests, customized instruments, or a combination of both. Either way, PRA consultants work with you to ensure that your selection tools are job relevant and fit into your staffing environment.

Demonstrate Validity
To ensure the effectiveness of an instrument and to comply with Equal Employment laws, "validating" a test (showing a link between test scores and job performance) is critical. There are several ways to demonstrate that tests are relevant to job performance. The validation strategy selected determines the types of data collected and the analyses performed. Based on your organization's needs, our researchers determine the most appropriate approaches for your tests and situation.

Develop Measures of Job Performance
Some strategies for validation require linking tests to measures of job performance. If needed, PRA researchers develop appropriate performance measurement tools for your organization.

Implement the Selection System
PRA specializes in launching successful selection programs. We help you successfully implement selection systems by assisting your team with technical issues such as setting cutoff scores and devising test policies and with administrative issues such as testing procedures and computer delivery.

Document Your Test Research & Administration Practices
PRA creates a complete record of your project to provide documentation for legal defense and future research. In addition, we document implementation decisions and develop tools for test implementation such as Test Administrator Guides, Test Taker Guides, and Test Policies and Procedures Handbooks.
